Helping Others
It is important that as Irish society grows, people realise that there are many in our world, country and indeed in our neighbourhood who are less fortunate than us. It is essential for schools to lead the way in educating children to the needs of those around them. It is our hope the children will spread this message in their communities and neighbourhood.
The following are some of the initiatives that the Junior School supports but the projects can vary from year to year.
A Christmas Family Appeal
For a worthy charity nominated by the school which may change from year to year. Beneficiaries include ACET Ireland and the Notre Dame Sisters Orphanage in Bangladesh.
Non- Uniform Days
There are usually two/three non-uniform days per year when the pupils in the school contribute to a charity they wish to support. In the past they have collected money for charities associated with the school through parents.
Communion/Confirmation Donations
It has become a tradition in the Junior School that the Communion and Confirmation classes donate some of the money received to others. The classes of 2009/2010 donated to the Children’s Sunhine Home and the ISPCC respectively.
Trocaire Lenten Campaign
Through Religion classes, the pupils actively participate in and support Trócaire every year.
Children Helping Children
This is a pupil led educational project run by fifth class teacher and Mr. King. It encourages initiative and raises money for less fortunate children. It’s not a charity but offers assistance to needy children at home and abroad. Please log onto www.childrenhelpingchildren.iefor more information. Listen to coverage on Newstalk Under the Covers Programme with Henry McKean from Saturday, 28th May, 2011 in the attachments below. It features the pupils' project and a piece from Ali Hewson.
